How to write a tutorial for Blend Hosting

On the community page of Blend Hosting, you’ll find a link that says “Write a Tutorial[1]”.

To contribute a tutorial, you first need to sign in to the system with a username and password. Once signed in, you’ll see the option to write a tutorial.

Here are some key details to include:

Title: Provide a catchy title for your tutorial, up to 90 characters. Make it attractive and clear to indicate what the tutorial is about. A compelling title ensures your tutorial reaches a wider audience. Examples:

  • “How to Create a Virtual Private Network”
  • “Configuring a Firewall on Your VPS”

Short Description: Write a brief paragraph describing the tutorial’s topic. For example, if your tutorial is about creating a virtual private network, the short description could be: “This tutorial covers the steps to create a virtual private network, addressing topics such as avoiding IP conflicts, setting up an incoming VPN connection, configuring third-party firewalls, adjusting your IP address, and managing VPN traffic. Gain insights into the key aspects of VPN setup with this comprehensive guide.”

The short description should give readers a clear idea of the tutorial’s content.

Comma-Separated Tags: Assign relevant tags to your post based on the tutorial’s topic. Examples of tags could include ‘virtual private network,’ ‘firewall,’ ‘Ubuntu,’ or any tag related to the tutorial’s content. This tagging system ensures that posts on similar topics are easily accessible for members of the Blend Hosting community.

Tutorial written in Markdown:

This section is used for writing the actual tutorial. You can use standard formatting such as Bold and Italic without any coding. You can also hyperlink the text in the tutorial by simply pressing the hyperlink icon. In case you want to use a block quote, this feature is also available as default without any coding.

Let’s look at each of these markdown features in detail.

Bold: If you want to put a certain text in BOLD, you need to select the Bold icon. With this, all the text appearing between the asterisks will appear in bold in the final published output.

Italic: If you want to put a certain text in Italics, you need to click on the Italics icon. This way, all the text appearing between the two asterisks will appear in Italics in the final version.

Hyperlink[2]: If you want to insert a hyperlink in the tutorial (link to an external article or another article on the Blend Hosting community), you need to click on the link icon. A new window will open up. You need to paste your desired link into this box. This way, you can seamlessly link your text to other content.

Blockquote: This markdown is useful if you are copying a quote from another source, and you don’t want search engines to penalize you for duplicate content. It’s a way of informing search engines that you’re giving credit to the original source.

Custom code: If desired, you have the option to enhance your tutorials with customized formatting. For instance, Markdown language can be employed to seamlessly incorporate tables into the text. Similarly, line breaks can be introduced for improved readability. Simply click on the Custom Code icon within the text window, where you will find the ‘enter code here’ option. This allows you to effortlessly input your desired code for a more tailored presentation.

Images: To incorporate images into your tutorial, click on the images icon. Once clicked, a box will appear where you can paste the link to your image. After pasting the link, you’ll be prompted to provide a description for the image.

Numbering: For creating a numbered list, click on the numbering icon. This will open an option to list items sequentially with numbers.

  2. List
  3. Items

Bullet Points: To include text as bullet points, click on the relevant icon.

Heading: To introduce varied headings and subheadings, simply click on the heading icon. Any text enclosed within hashtags will automatically transform into distinct headings.

Horizontal Rule: This feature becomes especially handy when creating tables. Clicking on the Horizontal Rule icon generates a horizontal line, which can aid in visually separating content or structuring a table.

Example:

Undo/Redo: For text modifications, the Undo/Redo options are available. Aside from using the icon, you can employ standard commands for undo (Ctrl+Z) and redo (Ctrl+Y) to revert or reinstate changes as needed.

Concerning tutorial statuses:

Save tutorial as draft: Utilize this option if you wish to take some time to review your tutorial before publishing. Create an initial draft and use the “Save as Draft” feature. This allows you to revisit and make additions or revisions before submitting the content for review.

Receive email notifications: Opt for this feature to stay informed about the engagement levels of your post. By selecting this option, you’ll receive email notifications whenever users comment on your tutorial. This ensures prompt responses to user queries and keeps you informed about discussions surrounding your tutorial.

Submit for review:

When your tutorial is complete, submit it for review. Any questions or clarifications will be addressed with you before the tutorial is published.

Once approved and published, you become eligible for rewards from BlendHosting.
